Lending decisions at this scale need to be fast and consistent, so they are made against a defined set of company data rather than a lengthy manual review. That does not mean opaque — here is what actually goes into it.
What is checked
Your company's incorporation status and trading history (at least 6 months), a current UK business bank account and its recent activity, and standard business credit-reference checks on the company itself. The amount and term you request are checked against affordability based on that data.
What is deliberately not asked for
No personal guarantee is taken from directors or members, and no personal credit search is run against you as an individual — the lending relationship is with the company. No business plan or forecast is required; the decision looks at actual trading history, not projections.
Why decisions can be made the same working day
Because the inputs are standardised — company data and business bank activity rather than bespoke underwriting — most applications can be assessed within hours during business hours, rather than the days or weeks a manual, relationship-based process can take.
What happens if you are declined
A decline is based on the data available at the time and is not necessarily permanent — a company's trading position changes. You are entitled to ask what information a decision was based on, and to reapply once your position has moved on. See our regulatory status and responsible lending pages for how decisions sit within our lending policy.
How to query or complain about a decision
Contact our support team through the Help Centre in the first instance. If you remain unhappy, our complaints process (see feedback & complaints) sets out the formal route, including the timescales you can expect.
Frequently asked questions
- Does Credit Corp use automated decisioning?
- Yes, in part — applications are assessed against a defined set of company and banking data to give a fast, consistent outcome. Automation is used to speed up and standardise the process, not to hide the criteria being applied.
- Can I ask why my application was declined?
- Yes. You can contact our support team to ask what data your decision was based on. We are not able to disclose full internal credit-scoring methodology, but we can explain the general basis for a decision.
- Does applying affect my personal credit score?
- No. Lending is to the company and any credit checks run are against the company, not against you personally, so a business loan application does not appear on your personal credit file.
